Enroll STISD for 2020-2021

South Texas Independent School District (STISD) is now enrolling for the 2020-2021 school year at all six campuses – two middle schools and four high schools.

To be eligible, students must reside in Cameron, Hidalgo or Willacy County and complete the online registration application. Limited slots are available, and enrollment for each campus will close once the school reaches capacity. Students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Preparatory Academy and Rising Scholars will accept applications for students entering the seventh- or eighth-grade in August 2020. Those who will start the ninth- or 10th-grade in August 2020 may enroll at any STISD high school: South Texas ISD Health Professions, South Texas ISD Medical Professions, South Texas ISD Science Academy and South Texas ISD World Scholars.

As STISD is a public school district, there is no cost to attend any STISD school. Bus transportation is also provided free of charge.

The district's two middle schools include: South Texas ISD Preparatory Academy (Preparatory Academy) in Edinburg and South Texas ISD Rising Scholars Academy (Rising Scholars) in San Benito.

Both of these campuses serve students in grades 7 and 8. While enrolled in these middle schools, students take above-grade-level courses in various subject areas, with the opportunity to gain high school credits to put them on track for more advanced coursework while attending one of STISD’s four magnet high schools.

STISD’s four high schools offer students in grades 9-12 the opportunity to complete career-and-technology coursework and gain hands-on experience in specific vocational areas while engaging in college-level learning experiences, with the chance to earn college credits. These campuses include:

South Texas ISD Health Professions: Students develop clinical skills in area hospitals, nursing homes and pharmacies, as well as doctor, dentist and veterinary offices. Many students earn certifications as certified nursing assistants, dental assistants, emergency medical technicians, personal trainers and veterinary technicians.

South Texas ISD Medical Professions: Students develop medical and clinical skills in area hospitals and doctor’s offices. Many students earn certifications as clinical medical assistants, EKG technicians, emergency medical technicians, patient care technicians, pharmacy technicians, phlebotomy technicians, medical lab assistants, certified ophthalmic assistants and as national entry-level dental assistants and registered dental assistants.

South Texas ISD Science Academy: The Science Academy specializes in the math and science careers. The school partners with Project Lead the Way, a national pre-engineering program in which students can receive college credit beginning their freshman year.

South Texas ISD World Scholars: World Scholars is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme campus, with over 50 courses to choose from. Students are not only eligible to graduate with an international diploma, but also eligible for free college/university credit opportunities + an associates degree.

STISD and its campuses consistently rank among the best in the state and nation in various polls, including those in The Washington Post, U.S. News & World Report, and Niche.
