World Scholars boys volleyball team makes history as it heads to state

The STISD World Scholars Lions boys volleyball team continues its historic season as it advances, undefeated, to the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League (TCSAAL) state championship this weekend.

Although World Scholars began offering boys volleyball in 2017 and has claimed all four STISD titles since that time, this year marks the first year that the campus is participating in this sport within the TCSAAL.

So far this season, the team secured a 6-0 record in district play and claimed its first ever district title. The team then defeated IDEA San Benito in the Regional Semifinal match, setting up a clash of undefeated teams. World Scholars battled IDEA Weslaco in the Regional Final match for a spot in the State Final. In a hard-fought match, World Scholars prevailed in four sets to earn their place in the TCSAAL State Championship. The World Scholars team is currently 10-0 and looking to cap off its record-setting season with a state title.

The World Scholars Lions will face Round Rock Meridian World School on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 1:30 p.m. at Wimberley High School.

South Texas ISD World Scholars is one of four high schools in South Texas ISD, a magnet school district serving students from Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy Counties. The state- and nationally-recognized campus offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and Dual Enrollment programs with South Texas College and The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Students can take college courses free of charge, earn course credit recognized worldwide, and earn an internationally-recognized diploma.
